Tempo Journalist Receives UNESCO Award

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Press Council and UNESCO presented the 2009 journalistic award for press freedom protection category to Tempo journalist, Abdul Manan. “This award is an appreciation to all journalists who have contributed towards press development and protection of journalists,” said Press Council member and jury, Abdullah Alamudi, yesterday.

Abdul Manan received the award for his article, “Time Saja Tak Cukup” (Time Is Not Enough) which was published in Koran Tempo on April 20. Other than Tempo, Kompas journalist Ninok Leksono also won an award in the press freedom development category for his article, titled “Media, Technology, and Power” published in June 18, 2008. The two received Rp 5 million in prize money.
